  • 1 and 1/3 C All-purpose flour
  • 1 and 1/3 C Milk
  • vanilla
  • chopped walnuts
  • diced apples
  • cinnamon
  • nutmeg
  • salt
  • baking soda
  • hot water


  1. Bake in greased 9 x 9 inch pan at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes.
  2. A wonderfully warm cinnamon aroma permeates the house as it bakes.
  3. Cream shortening and sugar. Add egg, vanilla, nuts, and apples. Mix well. Add flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Dissolve baking soda in hot water and add to batter. Mix well until blended.
  4. Note: This recipe can be doubled using a 9 x 13 inch pan and can be served slightly warm with whipped cream. This is a nice breakfast cake and is especially good in the fall and winter when fresh fruit is not available.

This recipe was one of my favorite cakes made by my mother. She would make it when friends would come over for an evening of card games. The games would end around 11:00 PM and a lunch consisting of King's Delight Cake would be served.
