Went there for my fiance's 41st birthday with 2 friends. They stayed at the O' Malley Suite and we stayed at the Colonel Parker Suite. We were greeted by Brent who walked us through the house and the rules as well as all the accommodations we were welcome to enjoy. Also gave us a brief background on the house and introduced us to the cutest residents of the house Parker and Jackson, the friendly furry friends. We loved staying there and using the street car to get to the French Quarter. I loved walking around the old house and enjoying the art, architecture and impeccable decor. We felt so at home as if we were guests at a friend's beautiful home. We got along wonderfully with the other guests and both Larry and Brent had alll the recommendations we needed to have a great time our first time in New Orleans. The breakfast was divine as well, and it was the only place I found that included a full breakfast. Everything was clean and comfortable. I have absolutely no complaints. Thank you guys giving us a memorable first bed and breakfast experience and New Orleans experience. And to end the trip on such an amazing note, Brent made my fiancé BIRTHDAY CUPCAKES on our final morning! You can't get that kind of awesomeness everywhere. We cannot wait to go back!

Everything was great. Good food, great suggestions for things to do. We took a helicopter tour while we where there and you must do that. Also did the swamp tour, go to that spring summer or early fall to see alligators. About the Bed and breakfast. Do not hesitate to stay at this place. We will stay here again. Breakfast is awesome sitting around the bog table and being served while visiting with all the others staying here. It's funny talk to others about where you are from and telling stories of your day in new Orleans. This place is very quiet and seems to be in a safe part of town. You can hop on the tram and it's a 10-15 min ride to the French Quarter as we parked our car and never really needed to take it anywhere. We rode the tram with a day pass to just about anywhere you want to go. Call now and book your trip!! You won't regret it.

Everything about this B and B is perfect! We loved our comfortable room complete with a jacuzzi tub. We slept very well because the house is in a quiet location. The breakfasts were superb each morning with a different hot entree served each day. The staff are friendly and helpful and always willing to suggest a good restaurant or give directions. The location cannot be beat as it is a very short walk to the Canal Street streetcar. We look forward to staying here again and will recommend it to our friends and families.

The O'Malley House is the best bed and breakfast we have ever stayed at. The breakfasts , which included fruit each day, were unique and well plated. There is a guest refrigerator which is always stocked with wine, beer, and soda. The hosts are very personable and reccomended great places to eat as well as information about the area. They make the guests feel at home. They are located within walking distance from the Canal Street Trolley Line, which can take you where ever you need, so you can park your car for your stay. This was our second stay at the O'Malley House and we plan to stay again.

My husband, daughter, and I really enjoyed staying at the O"Malley House. The house is beautiful and the hosts are fun, casual, and hospitable. I would stay there again if I go back to NOLA. The location was perfect as a base for us to go anywhere we wanted to go. I highly recommend the 1896 O'Malley House.

The O'Malley house is perfect for couples who want the French Quarter close by, but want to get some quiet time as well. Larry is a wonderful host, the accomodations are super comfortable, the area is close to many great local restaurants, and it's a short cheap taxi ride to the Quarter. You can't go wrong here unless you want to be in the loud chaotic rush of Bourbon Street, then this isn't your place.

1896 O'Malley House was a wonderful suprise. The rooms were spacious and quiet. Larry our host was fantastic and really made us feel at home. The location in Mid-City is perfect. You could walk to local restaurants or hop on the street car across the street for a quick trip to downtown.

We had a great stay at the 1896 O'Malley House. Our hosts were warm and inviting and took the time to make sure we were settled in and having a great stay. The room was clean and comfortable and made for a nice homebase for our adventures in New Orleans. The room we stayed in was rumored to be haunted and, while it wasn't scary at all, there were a few strange and unexplainable events. It wasn't at all scary and actually added to the adventure. :)

Everyone was super helpful here. They know the town and steered us away from the tourist traps and into the RIGHT restaurants. The house is easily accessible via the street cars and only about 15 minutes from the center of town (provided the street car operators don't go on break 1/2 way along the ride). The rooms were really nice, and kept clean daily. Breakfast was nice and provided a good base to get the day started. Soda, beer, snacks were kept stocked and the water cooler was welcome Thanks very much guys!

The beds are comfortable and the rooms are beautiful and clean. The innkeeper is helpful but not officious or intrusive. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and if we go back, would definitely check to see if rooms were available here first. A big plus is the proximity of the streetcars and taxicabs. We had no trouble getting around without a car.

This is a wonderful place along the Canal Street streetcar line. It is a quick ride into the French Quarter and the staff make every effort to make you feel like home. The complimentary coffee/tea/beer/wine/snacks make you feel welcome any time of day or night. Although this was my first trip to New Orleans, I know I'll be coming back!

We had read at length about this B&B and so we had probably built it up in our heads a little too much. The house is really nice, true old south architecture so if you are into history you will love it. The rooms are big and spacious with a nice (but small) ensuite. The bed was comfortable even if it does take a step ladder to get into (thats no joke either, theres an actual step ladder). Breakfast was good, waffles and fruit one day, fruit and an type of omlette the next. There are always soft drinks, wine and nibbles available which is a nice touch. Probably the only thing we felt let the place down a bit was the location (abuot 15mins on the cable car from bourbon st) which isnt a big deal but we did get caught out a few times in the night with the cable car breaking down and losing power on our way back. Not to mention some of the seedy characters that seemed to get off at our stop even when they didnt look like they were planning on it, which made for some brisk walks back to the B&B. The service was adequate, but we probably expected a little better. We had read some really great reviews about the hosts, but once we were shown around we really had very little interaction with them after that. After coming from Texas where everyone is SUPER friendly this was a bit of a let down, especially considering B&Bs pride themselves on hospitality. All in all i doubt you would be disappointed, but dont get your hopes up too much..

We staying for 3 nights and the owners were very helpful to us at any time. The house is very nice with a wonderful living room and free drinks/appetizers. It is very close to the street car that will take you to the French Quarter in 10 mins. The neighborhood is very nice, with lots of restaurants if you prefer to stay for a quiet night.

We stayed 3 nights at O'Malley's in room 7. The house position is about 10 minutes from the French Quarter by tram which itself is about 2 minutes away from the house. Tram is quite cheap especially if you are over 65 (40 cents a trip). A lovely old house completely renovated after the Hurricane Katrina disaster. Loads of character, lovely antique and repro furniture with comfortable Tester bed. Jason was our host and he was very helpful and friendly and made our stay a pleasure. Breakfast was different every day with very tasty dishes. Highly recommended

Recently stayed at the B&B O'Malley House and can't say enough good things about it. Beautifully decorated, comfortable and clean. Larry was a great help recommending places to visit and eat. Lots of good local eating places within walking distance. Trolley is just at the end of the street. This will be my place of stay every time I return for a visit to New Orleans.

It was our second experience of staying at the O'Malley House and it was just as splendid as before! Larry Watts and co. are the kindest and most helpful crew who were most accommodating for us college students. The B&B is located right by a street car stop that can take you to the French Quarter and there are conveniently located, good restaurants within a few blocks.

My weekend at 1896 O'Malley House was fantastic. The owner and staff made us feel welcome. We had one of the rooms on the third floor. It was very nice. The room had bottled water and a nice variety of toiletries. In the mornings and evenings, we shared experiences with other guests staying there. We had free access to a refrigerator containing beer, wine and sodas. Also available was coffee and a variety of teas. In the foyer, the B&B had a book with menus from many area restaurants and a stand with tourist brochures. On the coffee table in the living room were books containg photos of the area. The morning coffee was wonderful. The breakfast included fresh fruit, juice, various cereals, biscuits, muffins, and a main dish of the day. The B&B was located in mid-town about a block from the Canal Street streetcar line which runs to the French Quarter and the riverfront.

Enjoyed our stay at the 1896 O'Malley house tremendously. Great food, good people, good conversation...couldn't have asked for more. We were nervous being our first B&B stay, but it was more than we hoped for. Rooms were historic but with modern touches that didn't detract from the history. Very comfortable stay, great food, wonderful service...couldn't ask for more.

Impressive is how I would describe my stay at 1896 O'Malley House. Larry, the owner, and his staff are impeccable and truly are experts at the bed and breakfast game. This was my first experience staying at a B & B. I do not want to stay in a hotel again. Breakfast was superb and oh so yummy! I stayed on the third floor in room number four. It was beautiful and quiet. I would recommend that if you have a little extra money to splurge and get a room on the second floor. Our friends stayed in room two, and it was amazing! The O'Malley House is in a safe and clean neighborhood with access to the Canal Streetcars. No need for a car. Don't waste your money at some dirty hotel where they could care less if you were satisfied. Book your stay at the 1896 O'Malley House and get ready to be pampered with delicious food, snacks, beer/wine, and incredible hospitality!

The house is amazing! You meet and socialize with different ppl around the world that's staying in the O'Malley house while you're there and you still have a lot of privacy. The staff is friendly and the owner is very entertaining. The rooms are super clean and provide a lot of space. The house is close to the Trolly/Train and it delivers you to downtown New Orleans within minutes. This is very convenient if you're in town for a big vent because you bypass all the traffic.

This is a beautifully furnished house, very clean and quiet (though it is close to the streetcar line), and the breakfasts are delicious. Larry is friendly and helpful. It was well located for our purposes, and there are restaurants in close walking distance. The one thing we had a little anxiety about was the greater than usual height of the beds in our room, since we are in our late sixties, needed the stool to climb up, felt we might wake each other getting back in to bed in the middle of the night.
5 su giugno 23, 2011
Splendid time at the house! Larry and staff are personable and knowledgeable on what to do in the great city of New Orleans. We enjoyed the refreshment area which contained a variety of drinks to include local beer (Abita) and wine, plenty of time to sleep off the night activities to get up for some coffee and breakfast (8-10 AM), inviting living room and front porch to relax and chat with other guest or staff, great run routes, and a hop and skip to the trolley ($1.25 per ride or $3.00 for an all-day pass). O’Malley House was clean, quiet, with a friendly staff, and close to all the attractions yet away from all the excitement. Oh and we love Cody and Porter! You gotta go meet those B&B Dogs.

We enjoyed three nights at the O'Malley House in Room 1. The house and room were beautiful and spotless. Larry was a great host. He was friendly, professional, and helpful. Take advantage of Larry's recommendations for dinners and outings - he was happy to set up reservations for us and he is very knowledgable about the best and worst in New Orleans. Our breakfasts were delicious - waffles, omeletes, and bananas foster french toast - and every morning there was ample coffee/tea/juice, biscuits/muffins and we always started with fruit.... Two reasons for not providing an outstanding ranking on service and value: 1) although we hung the Do Not Disturb request on our door handle it was ignored and the cleaning staff tidied our room anyway (not a big deal, but we didn't need our room cleaned during our stay) and 2) although Room 1 was beautiful, unless you need the jetted tub during your stay, the other rooms on the second floor are equally beautiful and nearly as spacious for less per night. We liked the location north of the busy downtown, but if you want to be in the middle of all the fun the whole time during your visit to NOLA, be aware that this B&B is in a quiet residential neighborhood and you'll have to take the streetcar or a taxi to get back & forth from the French Quarter. Overall we had a wonderful stay and would recommend this B&B to anyone.
5 su giugno 06, 2011
The location was perfect being quiet but only 2 mins from the streetcar and a 10 min journey to the French Quarter. The accommodation was exceptional and our host (Larry) was friendly and always available to impart his exceptional knowledge of the area. The breakfast was certainly a cut above other B&Bs with a different dish each morining that was both filling and satisfying. I would have no hesitation in recommending the O'Malley house to anyone and it will certainly be our first choice anytime we are in New Orleans.

We had 3 glorious nights in the McNeil Suite (room 4). We want to come back to NOLA again and for much longer and allot has to do with the staff which I would rather define as our new found friends from the South and not to forget the gorgeous K9 hosts Cody and Porter! Larry, Joey, Jeff and Jason were all fantastic hosts and went beyond not just expectations but more so their requirements to make us feel very welcome and very comfortable. Even the housekeeper (Juan) was as friendly and welcoming, unfortunately 'a dingo ate his baby' (tic). The location is perfect, just a short street car ride to the french quarter (Borbon Street) but away from the tourist trap and within a safe neighbourhood. O'Malley House is beyond beautiful inside and out. The food was great including the breakfast, the availability of a light snack with muffins or chips, tea and coffee, wine and the local restaurants which are recommended or provided in a list. Not to forget my new personal favorite (being an Australian) was always in the fridge - "Abita" Amber Beer to relax on the front porch with and enjoy the weather. To be honest, words are still lost due to the enormity of how much appreciation and grace we want to write and could go on forever with all positive descriptions. All the other guests were friendly and you could see that they also discovered a Gem. Stay there for yourself because it was awesome... I hear The Cooney Suite - Room 5 is the one to stay in. I really want to check out the sister destination of Cody's Cabin as well. -Daniel

My girlfriend and I stayed at the O'malley house while we waited for our new apartment in New Orleans to get ready. I read a few of the reviews bashing the O'Malley house so let me say firstly that the location is absolutely perfect. Being here for a few weeks now, Midcity is where you want to be if you want to experience this city. It's close to everything. Remember that the French Quarter isn't the only place in this town that is fun/cool/exciting. It's in a very safe location: there are pockets in the city that will frighten some but you will feel safe in this area. I noticed a CCTV system they had watching the street to monitor guests' cars which made me feel safe leaving my car out front. The O'Malley house is also about a 1 minute walk to the street car which will take you anywhere you would want to go. The staff are extremely nice. Larry wasn't there when we first arrived but Jason greeted us and showed us around. He was extremely friendly and so was (Juan?) who cleaned the rooms. We immediately felt at home. They have free wireless internet so this was very helpful to us. We were on the 3rd floor which, of course, requires walking up two flights of stairs but the room was beautiful with a rustic feel and impeccably clean. Breakfast in the morning was perfect with fruit, muffins, coffee, and eggs ... everything you would need to get your day started. They also offer complimentary drinks and snacks for the guests and you have access to the pantry area at all times. The O'Malley house is in walking distance to several restaurants. This stay was our best experience in New Orleans. We have stayed at many different high-end hotels throughout the city in the past few weeks (Loews, Renaissance, Pere Marquette) and none of the compare to the service and hospitality we experienced at the O'Malley House. We both really want to go back, and will recommend the O'Malley house to all of our family and friends.

The host and staff were exceedingly gracious, the rooms--and indeed, the entire house--were charming and immaculate, and the breakfasts were fantastic! The house is just steps away from the free trolley, which goes straight to the French Quarter. The trip takes about 15 to 20 minutes, and the trolley runs 24 hours/day. (It comes about every 10 minutes--though less frequently during late night hours and the wee hours of the morning.) I highly recommend the O'Malley House and will stay there again if I return to NOLA.

We stayed at the inn for three nights in April 2011. The house is beautiful and spotlessly clean. We were greeted by Jason upon our arrival and given a tour of the house. The guests can help themselves to wine, beer, soda, chips, fruit, etc. The breakfast was served daily between 8 and 10 AM and was wonderful. The rooms are beautiful and very quiet. The inn is about a mile and a half from the French Quarter, but the Canal St. streetcar stop is just two minutes away and runs every 10 or 15 min. We loved our stay and will definitely come back.

In addition to phenomenal service, great food, and beautiful rooms, you get to experience a different side of New Orleans by not staying in a hotel near the French Quarter. When you do want to go out to Bourbon street (etc.), all you have to do is hop on the street car and be there in 10 minutes. It is important be aware, however, that the street cars do stop running at 11:00pm, so if you plan on having a late night in the French Quarter, plan accordingly (you will most likely need to call a taxi). The O'Malley House is also in walking distance of other great attractions like some of the cemeteries, City Park, and many great places to eat (including Parkway Bakery & Tavern for the original Po-boy). Larry and the other staff members are incredibly friendly and hospitable. They won't hesitate to grab a mug of coffee and sit on the porch or in the living room with you for hours. Larry especially is incredibly helpful when planning your day. He gives great suggestions on restaurants, attractions, and transportation options. All and all, a fantastic B&B that is worth trying!

I booked this B&B for myself and my parents for my Mom's 60th birthday for two nights. I arrived late at night by myself and the process for late arrivals was seemless. The property has been beautifully restored; the hosts are available, knowledgable and friendly; the breakfast was plentiful and gorgeous; and the rooms were tastefully decorated and sufficiently private. As far as I can tell, the only thing negative that could be said is that this B&B is not in the French Quarter. But if you have actually BEEN to the French Quarter and if you are at all like me this is actually an advantage. The Canal St. streetcar costs $1.50, the stop is seconds from the B&B, and it goes straight to the Quarter. I would say the ride takes about 10-15 minutes and operates into the early hours of the morning (I think). It's simple. After a day and evening in the Quarter I, for one, was happy to put some distance between myself and it. And, another bonus to being a 5 min drive/10 min streetcar ride from the Quarter is the free parking and plenty of it. So all in all, a wonderful experience and a wonderful birthday weekend in New Orleans for my mom. Highly recommended.

Stayed here in early February for a long weekend. Service at the O'Malley House was excellent. Larry and the staff were attentive to small details. Breakfasts were quite good. A prior request for specific flowers, chocolates, and a dessert wine upon arrival was met without any difficulty. Plenty of recommendations and assistance on things to do in New Orleans was provided by Larry and he was available to answer any questions we had. The only difficulty we had, which admittedly couldn't really be helped, is that the thermostat for our room was also going to affect a second room, given the house's air conditioning / heating system. We wanted our room to be very warm, whereas the travellers in the second room wanted their room to be a little cooler. Larry decided on a reasonable middle ground.

Superb B&B convenient to NOLA action via Canal St streetcar. Larry - the restorer and owner - has done an amazing job making this into a 5-star B&B since Katrina. Impeccable in every way, including Larry's knowledgable service, history, and advice on things to do. Don't miss it. If you want a lighter, healthy breakfast cereal is available and you can ask for things to be less sweet. Superb fresh fruit salad starts every breakfast.

I am normally not a fan of B&Bs, but O'Malleys was a delight. The rooms are arranged and proportioned to allow maximum privacy, the staff was unusually gracious and the owner a truly spectacular host. The other guest were bright, witty and wonderfully diverse, which surprised me as I usually dread the thought of the obligatory group breakfast. We had a wonderful time in New Orleans, not the least of which was because of our accommodation at O'Malleys. Highly recommended.

Very nice place, great hospitality and breakfast. Larry made sure we understood how to get in after midnight. Street parking made it awkward late at night in a neighborhood we weren't familiar with and lugging our luggage upstairs was taxing after a long, long day coming in from Los Angeles. BUT, everything was perfect and overall, an excellent stay. We'll be back, and better prepared to be on the look out for parking angels and sherpas to carry our luggage!

My wife and I spent 4 days in New Orleans to get away from a long, difficult year and we found the perfect refuge at the 1896 O'Malley House. The home is beautiful and well kept in a residential neighborhood. The Canal Street streetcar is just a block away for easy trips downtown, and the assortment of restaurants and services near the house makes this a very good home base for a trip to New Orleans. Larry is a great host - the advice for restaurants and tours was spot-on. We've stayed at many B&Bs in the US, Canada, and Ireland and 1896 O'Malley House ranks with the very best. One of the pleasures of staying at a B&B is the breakfast you have with people who are also visiting, some from thousands of miles away. We shared our delicious fresh breakfast with folks from California, Idaho, Belgium, Alabama, Florida, and Sweden. We all came to THIS house because of its reputation, and I don't think anyone was disapointed. This is a first-rate place filled with first-rate staff and guests. Thank you, Larry.

I stayed at 1896 O'Malley House over Halloween weekend, 2010. The owner, Larry, immediately made me feel at home. The house is a gorgeous artifact of the turn of the last century without making guests feel they are in a museum. The rooms are spacious but modestly decorated, and ultimately comfortable. The O'Malley House is home to two adorable and well-mannered Golden Retrievers, as well, and has a beautiful porch with swing (a great spot for morning coffee or an evening glass of wine). The breakfast was elegant but not stuffy, with free-flowing coffee and tea, OJ, fresh fruit, biscuits, muffins, cinnamon buns, and a warm casserole-style entree. The home is about 15 minutes by street car from the French Quarter, which meant that it was close enough to be accessible but far enough to be nice and quiet in our neighborhood. I loved my stay and I would absolutely stay in this B&B again.

Larry made us feel at home and welcome in the beautiful O'Malley House. It's rooms are impeccable and clean and beautifully, decorated. The food was very good and there were lots of choices. You know you have found a wonderful place to stay when you feel like you are being taken care of and you never want to leave...and that was the O'Malley House

Great place to stay when in NO. It is a very quiet location, with lots of restaurants in the area. The owner is very pleasant, and quick to provide answers to any questions. It is in a great location - the trolley is just a couple minutes walk from the B & B.

This is my 2nd time to stay at the O'Malley House. This particular time was with my mother. She was absolutely delighted with the home, the breakfast, proximity to sites through New Orleans. They provide more ammenities than other B&B's - complimentary wine, sodas, extensive restaurant list, internet access and computer for airline check in. Breakfast always includes juice, fresh coffee/tea, fresh fruit, and sumptious main breakfast course. The hosts and staff are wonderful with attention to details and information. Only drawback is that the home is not wheelchair accessible purely based on the age of the home. I have no reservations recommending this B&B to any traveler.

We would definately stay here again. Very good location near Canal street, easy acces to the french quarter by streetcar. Very beautiful rooms, great breakfast. The hosts provided us correct information about the city and nearby restaurants!

We visited New Orleans for the first time last week and were very lucky to find a place to stay during a week that was filled with convention attendees. It just so happened that the 1896 O'Malley house was available when we made the reservation and what wonderful luck we had. The home is just beautiful and decorated so tastefully. The breakfasts were not only plentiful and delicious, but was also a great time to sit and chat with the other lovely guests and the owner Larry. Their dogs are well behaved and never bark. Our daughter went running with Cody in the mornings through City Park which just a few blocks away. During our stay, we made new friends from around the country and we will most definitely return to 1896 O'Malley House.

We had read in the guide books this was the best B&B in New Orleans so we booked it. After staying there I have to say they are right. It is the perfect blend of all things good. Good location, beautiful rooms, great breakfast and coffee. The host Larry is amazing and who can forget Cody the golden. We felt so comfortable. You really need to check this place out!

My wife and I have stayed at several B&B in the garden district that where nice while our son attended school at Tulane. A friend of his recommended we try the 1896 O'Malley House, so we did. I hate we did not find this place until now, there is no other B&B we have stayed in that even comes close to how wonderful the O'Malley House is. The house is beautiful and the host "Larry" was my new best friend by the time we left. Do yourself and favor and check this place out.

My husband and I took our son here for his 16th birthday present. Brad and Larry were welcoming, accommodating and gracious hosts. They manage to be present and helpful while still providing guests with plenty of privacy. The rooms are lovely and were clean and the house is beautiful, airy and charming. Our stay was post-K and the house was not at all musty (a concern for me because of allergies). I would certainly come here again!

Wonderful is the best way to describe the O'Malley house. I visit New Orleans several time a year and being at the B&B make the trip even more special! The house is wonderful and you feel like a part of a family, waken up to the smell of coffee and breakfast foods! Everyone around the table sharing what they have done in New Orleans while having a wonderful breakfast!! The trolley car is one block from the house so you can park your car and never move it again. Very safe!! There is a porch across the front of the house that has a swing and chairs, wonderful for gathering during the evening! The rooms bring New Orleans style and comfort to you. Wonderful sleeping!! I highly recommend this B&B for your vacation or bussiness trips. Brad and Larry work very hard to make your stay as wonderful as possible! I look forward to going to the B&B each time!!

Rooms are elegant but uncluttered and decorated with impeccable taste. A quick ride on the Canal St. streetcar puts you at the CBD and the French Quarter. You'll never stay at a convention hotel again.
