To start with, we rarely stay in B&Bs except when we travel to or through Cincinnati. There, we always stay at the 1861 Inn. We once went to Cincinnati to see a football game and decided to do something different accommodations wise. We chose 1861 Inn because of its location and great access to the stadium(s) and Cincinnati’s many downtown activities. We go back often because we fell in love with the entire 1861 Inn experience. The property and house are beautiful. The sleeping rooms are private and spacious. The living room and library are very comfortable places to rest, relax, and unwind. The pool is an added benefit. But, the real attractions are the inn keepers themselves (Tom and Carol) and Carol’s wonderful food. Staying at 1861 Inn is like staying with very good friends. Tom and Carol are warm and attentive hosts without being intrusive during our stay. It is always a treat to spend time chatting with them and learning about more interesting places to visit and things to do (concerts, museums, golf courses, etc.) in and around Cincinnati. Whether you are looking for a good launch point for things to do, places to go in Cincinnati or if you just want to rest and recharge your battery, the 1861 Inn is a great landing spot. I highly recommend a stay there. Jim L.

The 1861 Inn is simply "The Best Bed & Breakfast in Clermont County". Carole and This was our second visit to the 1861 Inn and we will be back. Tom are the perfect hosts and go out of their way to please. The house itself is a mansion built in 1861 and never "restored"! Why no restoration? . . . Because all previous owners have kept the house repaired and modernized up to the present day. The history of the house is remarkable and Carole and Tom keep the house in grand style and scrupulously clean. Staying at the 1861 Inn is like stepping back into history, with all the modern conveniences of the 21st century. Plus, the breakfast is to die for!

My husband and I stayed for one night in the Riverview room and thoroughly enjoyed everything about our stay. Carole and Tom were very welcoming, everything was beautifully kept and Carole"s cooking is to die for! Tom was very knowledgeable of the history of the home and explained it all to us over breakfast. Their dog Marley was the sweetest natured dog and loved being paid attention to. We plan on staying again soon. Jonathan & Christina Raby

Everything was so simple from the online registration to the check in and on through with our visit. Very interesting house, great hosts, and the location made it easy to get to raraurants and movie theater. Food was great and the large claw foot rub was just what the doctor ordered. Can't wait to go back.

Our friends Tom and Julie Wood brought us to the 1861 Inn where we met Tom and Carol the proprietors of the 1861 Inn, and Marley the English Springer Spaniel. We were welcomed warmly, toured the Inn, had delightful conversations, ate yummy food, and were amazed at the beauty of the antiques/photos/ceramics. We stayed in the pool cottage and the bed was 'just right' for a very good nights sleep. Coffee and Tea service was brought to our room the next morning which was unexpected. The breakfast Carol made for us allowed us to eat a breakfast that was Gluten-Free and free of other foods that my husband could not eat. Everyone enjoyed the food immensely. And after breakfast Tom regaled us with the history of the Inn and the surrounding area. We will come again and stay longer. Kym and Fred Gordon Portland, Oregon

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our 2-night stay at the 1861 Inn. The claw-foot soaking tub in the Riverview room made for very relaxing evenings. The steam shower was a wonderful continuation of our Swedish massage by a great Masseuse that Carole recommended. Carole served two very delicious breakfasts! We look forward to visiting again in the future.

This was our third visit to 1861 Inn and it was as delightful as we remembered. The Innkeepers attention to detail and thoughtfulness is so refreshing.
This Parisian inspired room honors Jenny Penn, lifelong resident of the Penn estate. Originally her bedroom, this corner room looks out over the area that was once her beloved rose garden. Today, guests at the Inn enjoy a private screened in porch that provides a spectacular view of the swimming pool with easy access to the deck via a private spiral staircase. Cherry queen sleigh bed, heart of pine floors, high ceilings and a charming European bathroom guarantee an enjoyable stay. Visit www.1861inn.com for complete details.
When the 1861 Inn was known as the Penn Estate, this small brick building was the smokehouse for the Penn family. Today, this poolside guest cottage provides the perfect setting for a relaxing and romantic getaway. Features charming cottage style decor, a queen size bed, working fireplace, shower and an adjoining sitting room with exposed brick - just steps from the main house and heated pool and spa. Visit www.1861inn.com for complete details. NOTE: POOL AND HOT TUB ARE OPEN DURING SEASON - MID-MAY TO MID-SEPTEMBER
A favorite accommodation for those celebrating a special occasion or just looking for that special ambience. Decorated in relaxing shades of ivory and rust and soothing hues of green, with a splendid claw foot-soaking tub facing the fireplace. Snuggle under a warm comforter in the queen size bed overlooking a cozy fire. An adjoining private bath with steam shower completes this comfortable, spacious suite.
