For the second time we visited Goshen's Historic Hummingbird B&B. We were immediately welcomed by Jeff at our car to get the luggage then greeted by Sandra at the front door! George went for a nap and I enjoyed a tour with Sandra, she gave me information I had not had before. I knew the owner of the house in the 50s and loved seeing how it looks now, interesting and wonderful. We stayed on the 1st floor where we found a fabulous Queen bed, a very well set up bath room, two windows and a door to the porch where we had wine and goodies later. It was a nice experience and we hope to return. Jeff set us off the next morning after a delicious breakfast.

As a guest that had never stayed in a B & B before now, I was so pleasantly surprised and will be planning to visit again soon. Sandra and Jeff are welcoming and personable. The breakfast meal each day was fantastic. The property is well kept and the cabin is gorgeous.

The Inn is absolutely beautiful. Extensive attention to ALL details: cleanliness; quality of towels; decor; availability of amenities; room temperature; hot water; fires in fireplaces; etc., etc., etc. Sandra and Jeff are outstanding hosts ... Quite open to any requests; most hospitable; very attentive and sincere; ... AND Outstanding chefs. The food alone is worth the visit. The exterior of the building has been tastefully, and professionally restored. The interior is "awesome". Imagine the perfect B & B. This is it ... very tastefully decorated with quality materials, furniture, paintings, photos, rugs, and antiques. Rooms for meetings or small private visits with friends are available and inviting. Very nice piano also available. The Goshen are provided a plethora of opportunities to explore. Check The Hummingbird Inn out ... and the check in. You won't regret it.

I booked this for my husband's birthday. We had such a great time. The inn itself was charming and the location was beautiful. The owners were wonderful - great cooks and overly accommodating to our needs. The bed in our room was the best bed I've ever slept in. I loved this place and can't wait to come back!

Tim and I found this hidden gem tucked away in Goshen Virginia. So we decided to give it a try and thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality we received from Jeff, Sandra and Donna. We had dinner on the beautiful deck over looking the creek. The birds were singing and the sound of nature was so relaxing. The breakfast was homemade and delicious. We watched movies in the original room of the home with the wood beams showing and the original hard wood floors. We were spoiled from the chocolates in our room to the refrigerator full of water, juices, soft drinks and the variety of coffee and teas anytime our hearts desired. We will definitely return. Thanks again for a romantic and relaxing visit at The Hummingbird Inn. Tim and Jean June 2016

My husband and I are avid paddlers, and found peace and relaxation at this beautiful B&B. What a gem! The innkeepers greeted us warmly, and treated us to a wonderful night by the outdoor river deck under the stars in front of a blazing fire. The rooms were exceptionally clean and wonderfully appointed - the perfect end to a day spent canoeing the local rivers. The bedding is exceptional. Sandra and Jeff could not possibly have been more attentive, yet allowed us just the right amount of privacy. After a luxurious breakfast, we retreated to the solarium to enjoy coffee as the spring sun warmed us. In the winter, the den/library by the door would be equally inviting. Sandra and Jeff even arranged a shuttle for us so that we could thoroughly enjoy a day on the river! This "escape from the city" is exactly what we needed and well worth the trip. We visit many B&Bs in our travels and predict this one will be an enormous success!!!

As a child I spent many happy days in Goshen. My husband and I spent many Sundays on picnics in Goshen when he was in college. Also I read about the Hummingbird Inn in a magazine several years ago. For my husband and myself it provides the best beautiful and quiet retreat after spending fun but busy days in crowded conditions in nearby Lexington, VA.

We had a fantastic time on our "babymoon" at The Hummingbird Inn. Sandra and Jeff were so friendly and attentive-- we had everything just how we liked it. The breakfasts were creative and delicious, the room and bathroom extremely comfortable (we were in the Alleghany), and we loved curling up with cookies and milk in the cozy 18th-century den by the fire (which Jeff expertly built for us). We enjoyed massages and treats in our room (part of the babymoon package) and had some great dinners out in Lexington. Highly recommended!
Our largest room, the light and airy Alleghany, is the second floor room of the original 1780 post-and-beam house and boasts many windows. It features a queen-size pencil post bed, a love seat that can become a twin bed, comfortable seating with an electric fireplace stove, garden views, and afternoon sunshine. The spacious bathroom includes a large whirlpool tub/shower combination. Named after the old 114-room hotel that once stood on the hill above the Inn, the Alleghany is the perfect room for Virginia romantic travel, a wedding or honeymoon trip, an anniversary celebration, or just simple relaxation. The Alleghany is not a pet-friendly accommodation. We have one pet-friendly room; please reserve the Teter-Wood Room for your pet-friendly stay. With a king-size iron bed, this room remains as large and comfortable as it was in 1935 when Eleanor Roosevelt stayed here while visiting the textile mill in Goshen. The small bathroom features a double shower, with dual shower heads. An electric fireplace stove sits on the old hearth adding a cheery glow and plentiful warmth on chilly evenings. A welcome retreat for couples who love to pile up pillows to read in bed or in one of the comfortable chairs. Whether your goal is a romantic retreat, a place to relax snuggled under a down comforter, or a special anniversary or honeymoon to a Virginia bed and breakfast, the spacious Eleanor can provide it in comfort. The Eleanor is not a pet-friendly accommodation. We have one pet-friendly room; please reserve the Teter-Wood Room for your pet-friendly stay. Generously proportioned, Franklin features a queen-size rice-carved four poster bed, and comfortable seating for two. An electric fireplace lends a cheery glow and warmth on cool nights. A 150 year-old boxwood in our shade garden and the old livery stable beyond are visible from the back window. Around the corner, a door affords access to the wrap-around veranda. A comfortable modern bathroom with a large whirlpool tub/shower combination. The Franklin is named for FDR, who could not accompany his wife Eleanor when she visited, but sent a thank you note to Mr. & Mrs. Teter-Wood (original owners of the house) for a desk basket they sent him. FDR also hosted Mr. Wood for lunch at the White House. This room is a favorite with folks looking for a real Virginia Blue Ridge Mountain vacation, whether for hiking, fly fishing for trout, or just roaming about the beautiful countryside. And in good weather, with the windows open, guests can hear Mill Creek bubbling along by the deck next to the 1875 barn. The Franklin is not a pet-friendly accommodation. Sandra & Jeff Shaffer
After 22 years of B&B stays and a passion to one day have their own, an amazing stay at a Provincial B&B in the Luberon Valley of France in 2014 convinced Jeff & Sandra it was time to live out the dream.Their first visit to Shenandoah Valley and the Blue Ridge Mountains reminded them of Provence. A stay at the historic Hummingbird Inn clenched the deal. "Guests are the best part of running an inn. Meeting people and creating a memorable experience for each guest is what we're about.
